Xihe is a combination of two Chinese characters that mean "sun" and "river." In Chinese mythology, Xihe was the goddess who controlled the sun and determined the length of days. A Chinese sun goddess, mythologically she was the wife of Emperor Jun, and once the 'mother' of ten suns, in the form of Three-legged birds, residing in a mulberry tree in the eastern sea named Fusang. Each day one of the sun birds would be rostered to travel around the world on a carriage driven by Xihe. It's written 羲和, with the characters 羲 meaning "vapour, breath" and 和 meaning "harmony, peace, calm". The name Xihe is mostly used in China and other countries with Chinese-speaking populations.
