Troilus Name meanings & History
The meaning of the name Troilus is unclear. Some sources suggest that it may mean "Troy's destroyer" or "fluent in speech". Latinized form of Greek Τρωΐλος (Troilos), from the Greek name of the city of Troy Τροία (Troia). In Greek legend this was a son of king Priam killed by Achilles. His story was greatly expanded by medieval European writers such as Boccaccio and Chaucer, who make him the lover of Criseida. Shakespeare based his play Troilus and Cressida (1602) on these tales. The name Troilus is not commonly used as a baby name.
