Svafa
Svafa Name meanings & History
Svafa means "sleep" in Icelandic. It is also a variation of the name Sif, the Norse goddess of fertility, family, and harvest. Meaning uncertain, possibly "Swabian woman" or "woman from Schwaben" from Old Norse svabar "Swabians", from the name of a Germanic (Suebic) tribe which allegedly derived from Old German swēba "free, independent". In the Eddic poem 'Helgakviða Hjörvarðssonar', this was the name of a Valkyrie who would be reborn as Sigrún. Svafa is traditionally used as a girl's name in Iceland.
