Meanings: Comanche name derived from kwaina (sweet-smelling, fragrant). The name was borne by Quanah Parker, the son of Peta Nocona and Cynthia Ann Parker. He became chief of the Quahadi Comanche after the death of his father and for many years refused to accept the terms of the Medicine Lodge Treaty of 1867. He finally surrendered in 1876 and became a successful farmer and a judge of the Court of Indian Affairs. (KWAN-NAH)
