He fought in the battle with the Lapiths and became a ferryman on the river Euenos. The name possibly means "the duck" (nêssos), perhaps because he was a ferryman who carried passengers across a river on his back. Nessus is most commonly used as a name in literature, art, and pop culture. It has yet to gain popularity as a baby name.
