Magec Name meanings & History

The name Magec has its origin in the indigenous Guanche language of the Canary Islands, specifically of the Tenerife Island. The Guanches were an aboriginal population of the Canary Islands before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors. The name Magec means 'sun' or 'sun god'. It represents the Guanche god of light, who was believed to be the creator of the universe, and who was often associated with the sun. Magec (Guanche Berber Ma-ɣeq, "possesses radiance" or "mother of brightness"), in Tenerife, was a deity in the ancient Berber mythology. He or she was god or goddess (actual gender is unknown) of the Sun and the light and also thought to be one of the principal divinities in Guanche religion. According to legend, Magec was captured by Guayota and held him or her prisoner inside Teide (see Echeyde); Magec was later liberated by Achamán. Magec is an exceptional and memorable name that can be used for a boy born around the world. Despite its non-Spanish and non-English origin, it could attract attention in these countries due to its uniqueness.
