Larentia
Larentia Name meanings & History
The name Larentia is derived from the Latin word "laurus," which means "laurel" or "victorious." In Roman mythology, Larentia was a woman of ill repute who became wealthy and was later deified as the goddess Acca Larentia. Apparently derived from the Latin term Lares referring to minor guardian gods, the origin of which is unknown. There may be a connection to Latin larva "ghost, spectre" or larvo "to enchant, bewitch". (Also compare Larunda, Lara 2.) In Roman mythology, Acca Larentia was the name of the human foster-mother of the twins Romulus and Remus. Larentia can be used as a first name or middle name for baby girls.
