Itzayana Name meanings & History

Itzayana is a modern name that has recently emerged in Mexico, though its roots can be traced back to the ancient Maya culture of Mesoamerica. Itzayana is often interpreted to mean "gift of God" in reference to the Aztec goddess Ixtlilton, who was believed to bring blessings and prosperity to those she favored. Possibly an elaboration of Itzel, using the same suffix sound found in Dayana, or perhaps inspired by the name of the Itza people of Central America (as seen in the name of the old Maya city of Chichen Itza, Mexico; compare Maritza).
