Ichabod Name meanings & History
"The glory has departed" or "no glory". Means "no glory" in Hebrew, from אִי ('i) meaning "not" and כָּבוֹד (kavod) meaning "glory". In the Old Testament he is the grandson of Eli and the son of Phinehas. He was named this because his mother despaired that "the glory has departed from Israel" (1 Samuel 4:21). This name was also used by Washington Irving for Ichabod Crane, the main character in his short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1820). The name Ichabod is used as a first name for boys.
