Usage/Origins
Meaning
Scottish form of Victoria, which is derived from the Latin victoria (victory). Victoria was brought to the British Isles in the 19th century, when Edward, duke of Kent, married the German Maria Louisa Victoria of Saxe-Coburg (1786-1861). Their daughter, the future Queen Victoria (1819-1901), was christened Alexandrine Victoria, furthering the use of the name. (VEEK-TOR-EE-AH)
