Afallach Name meanings & History

Possibly means "apple" or "orchard" in Welsh mythology. Probably derived from Middle Welsh afall "apple". This may be cognate with Abelio or Abellio, the name of a Gaulish god, which is thought to come from Proto-Celtic *aballo- "apple" (also the source of the mythical place name Avalon). According to a medieval Welsh triad, Afallach was the father of the goddess Modron. The 12th-century chronicler William of Malmesbury called him Avalloc and said he lived in Avalon along with his daughters. The name Afallach is not commonly used as a baby name.
