Led by Emperor Menelik II, Ethiopian forces defeated an invading Italian force on 1 March 1896. Adua became a given name during the Fascism (1925-45) when Adua was a symbol of a dreamed revenge that became real in 1935-36. Adua is used as a first name for baby girls.
