Acarnan was the son of Alcmaeon and grandson of Amphiaraus. In Greek mythology, he was the eponymous founder of the region of Acarnania in western Greece. Latinized form of Greek Ἀκαρνάν (Akarnan), which is derived from Greek ἀκαρνάν (akarnan), which is said to mean "laurel", but can also refer to a kind of thistle. In Greek mythology, Acarnan was the son of Alcmaeon. After his father's death he fled to South-Epirus, which was also known as Acarnia, derived from his name. Acarnan is not commonly used as a given name and is mostly known through its use in Greek mythology.
